Department of Experimental Animals



General Description
The Department of Laboratory Animals, established in 2014 within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, is currently one of the five (5) such departments in Veterinary Faculties in our country. Since its establishment, the department has been working to fill the significant gap in knowledge and meet the academic development needs in the field of laboratory and experimental animals at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In this context, courses such as Laboratory Animal Breeding and Laboratory Animal Diseases are being offered at the undergraduate level, and support is provided for the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Experimental Animal Research, which was established with the department's initiative. The department, which collaborates with other stakeholders in multidisciplinary research, also offers laboratory and expert witness services.


Research Interests
The Department of Laboratory Animals encompasses a broad field aimed at ensuring that scientific research and experiments are conducted more reliably and ethically. This department researches and develops various methods to maintain, breed, and use animals in laboratory settings under healthy and ethical conditions. Additionally, topics such as setting standards for animal care and welfare and ensuring the implementation of these standards are among the main areas of interest in this field.
